Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox uses a refined form of a toxin to freeze your muscles temporarily.

Dr. Kaw uses the FDA-approved treatment on:

  • Frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and bunny lines around your nose
  • Dimpling of your chin (“peach pit” chin or peu d’orange chin)
  • Vertical neck bands
  • Smoker’s lines (vertical lines around your lips)
  • Excessive sweating in your nose, palms, or armpits
  • Jawline (to create a V- shape and slim face)

Dr. Kaw also performs the injections to lift sagging eyebrows and to prevent a “gummy” smile.

Is Botox right for me?

Most adults are good candidates for Botox. Dr. Kaw reviews your medical history to make sure the injections are appropriate for you. You’ll want to tell him about prescription or over-the-counter medicines you’re taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements.

However, Botox isn’t appropriate if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Breastfeeding
  • Allergic to certain ingredients

You also shouldn’t have Botox with specific muscle or nerve conditions.

How does Botox reduce the appearance of a wide jaw?

Botox can help to minimize the appearance of your masseter muscle, a chewing muscle in your jaw. In some, this muscle is enlarged, making the jawline look overly broad.

Dr. Kaw uses Botox for a specialized technique to reduce the width of your jawline, giving you a V or heart-shaped face. The injections selectively weaken this muscle over time to reduce the size of the masseter muscle.

Does Botox hurt?

You may feel a pinch when the needle briefly enters your skin. If requested, Dr. Kaw can numb your injection sites beforehand to minimize any discomfort. The actual injection process takes a mere 10 minutes. Botox requires no downtime, meaning you can get back to your usual routine right away.

What happens after Botox treatment?

Within 24-48 hours, you may see a gradual softening of visible lines and wrinkles. Your face may appear more youthful and refreshed.

Results typically last up to four months for moderate-to-severe frown lines, although results vary for each individual. Because Botox is not a permanent treatment, you can expect the effects to dissipate unless you regularly update your injections.

If you are ready to minimize the signs of aging with a quick, nonsurgical treatment, call The Retreat Medical Spa: Henry Kaw, MD, today, or book a consultation online to see if Botox is right for you.
